What to wear

Deciding exactly what to wear for a particular date, event or a regular engagement can be tricky no matter how many clothes you have. We can all sympathise with the feeling of standing in front of your wardrobe at a complete loss for style ideas or inspiration, especially when you are in a rush. Luckily we are here to help!

At You Image, we believe having a go-to outfit strategy can often be a way to reduce the all too familiar stress of finding something to wear. Combined with some of the services we offer, such as wardrobe management and consultations, you can discover what outfits will prove to be failsafe choices for you in any situation.

We’ve put together some general guidelines for work, weddings and everywhere in between to get you on the way to achieving your very own style success. Deciding what to wear and when doesn’t have to be as hard as it sounds.

What to Wear at…Work

Although we generally have smaller “work” wardrobes, this doesn’t always make deciding what to wear any easier. A work wardrobe can often be about the size of a capsule wardrobe and it might be helpful for you to think about adopting a similar scale when deciding on your own workwear.

Less is definitely more when it comes to work, you want to stand out for the right reasons, not because you have over-accessorised or chosen one pattern too many. Discovering the neutral colour scheme with some pops of colour that suits your image is a great place to begin. As a rule of thumb, it can be helpful to keep work outfits classic. Think a pair of tapered suit trousers, a crisp white shirt paired with a bold necklace and contrasting scarf. There is plenty of room for experimentation with your workwear accessories but when deciding what to wear and when at work, keep it simple.

What to wear at…a Wedding

Just as it’s frowned upon to show up the bride by wearing white, we believe that it is best not to wear anything that is too visually distracting at a wedding. An over embellished dress can be just as distracting as a white one, so it is much better to stick to a colour block or a subtly patterned outfit.

The right outfit for you will depend on the wedding’s season and location. But generally speaking we believe that a well-fitting cocktail dress or two-piece skirt and jacket always ticks the box, no matter what the weather! To ensure that you still stand out of the (wedding party) crowd, this can be accompanied with a more colourful hat, fascinator or clutch bag to give you the individual image you desire.
What to wear… everywhere else

To help you decide what to wear and when in normal day to day (and day to night) situations we believe the best place to start is with some wardrobe management. After you’ve decided which pieces are staying, you can begin to shape your very own personal image!

It’s often helpful to find a few key colours, patterns and styles of clothing that suit your image, figure and complexion. For example a casual pinstripe, with complimentary tones of silver, grey and blue can work wonders for some. For others, keeping it simple with blue denim, white linen and funky accessories can be a great way of creating a stylish personal image day in and day out. What is important is that you feel comfortable, relaxed and confident in your outfit and the knowledge that you have made the right choice about what to wear and when!
